Angels on the Streets

Today it was all foggy..like in the heavens when I started out for work in the morning and Believe me when I say..I saw an angel today!Dont know for what good reason...they are digging up the middle of the roads where I live and putting metal planks on the road. Don't ask me why, I believe that its for something useful..thats what i say to console myself and well..in the morning commute its really annoying and very adventurous too..as you have to maneuver and steeryour way through the narrow road without hitting those orange cones or the curb on the other side or the cops standing just about everywhere! Man...what all you have to do to get to work!! Everyday is an endless journey filled with something exciting and new. Ok enough of rambling..let me get to the topic on hand. Today at one of the lights I saw a guy dressed up as an angel..he did not have wings thoughbut had the halo behind him..tied up in some way and he kept stopping and flapping his imaginary wings and it was so funny and gave me this thought what if angels were really visible to us and just were on the streets like any other person on this planet? If God really decides to do that... What would happen?
I remember the movie Angels in the outfield. Was about a kid who could see angels and helped the baseball team! Its a gift ain't it to see angels? And of course my all time fav...City of Angels...Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage and i don't remember the name of the movie but there was one where a kid is assigned an angel or somthing and they go on a plane..the angel is played by a French actor. That too was a cute movie!I don't know what I would ask the angel if ever I see one..but am sure I would wanna fly atleast for once!

What would you ask for if you ever see an angel?

The unsaid Part 2

If you are here at this post you must probably read this first
The unsaid part 1

It probably will not make any sense to you reading this part 2 after part 1 either..but just to help you out. This was my first try at writing something called a novel!

The unsaid part 2

She thought it was a mail from one of her crazy, cranky fans. She smiled at this thought. She had not been writing for almost two months now. Now this really upset her, and she collected herself and got into the elevator. She then went inside her apartment, unlocking the door, and switched on the lights and let out a shrill shriek.“You jerk! You scared the hell outta me. What in God’s name are you doing here? And don’t tell me you cooked and gimme another shock”, she pummeled her fist into the arms of her elder brother Stephen Rodricks.
“Jenny! Remember its Christmas! Huh!” he gave her a scornful look.“What am I doing here? Well that’s just like you isn’t it? The same dumb Jenny. I just came here to check if things were alright in this city. DUH!!!” he chuckled.Jenny gave him a very fiery look and then exclaimed, “Of course! I should have known. That’s what you do for a living!!” she mocked him. “I can’t believe that you are still stuck with that good for nothing job. Great work Steve!!” and they started laughing. Steve was thrilled to see her laugh. It seemed like years.“So are you going to meet the folks for the vacation?” Steve enquired hesitantly. The smile suddenly vanished from Jenny's face. It was as if someone had turned a smiley face into a grumpy one all of a sudden by rotating the smile.
“You know everything Steve and still you’re asking me this”, she screamed at him.
“Don’t you know that I am in no mood for celebrations? Not after what happened, why me?
Why me? I must not cry, I know that Steve but still it hurts, it hurts real bad. I know I must be strong. I would still ask why me? Why me?” and she broke down.
“ I know Jenny. I know its tough. I am sorry if I have hurt you. You know very well how much I love you and how much I wanted to see you two together. But now it’s over Jenny. Face it! You oughtta move on. I can’t see you like this, it hurts me Jenny”.“ Look tell you what, let’s treat ourselves to a royal dinner of burned toasts and slimy drinks. What do you say?” Steve tried to get her out of the melancholy. As she heard this, she couldn’t help laughing. “Thanks for coming down here, Steve. It really means a lot”, she just hugged him and sobbed. They had a quiet dinner. “Well I’m gonna sleep like a log”, Jenny kissed her brother good night, and turned in for the night.Steve changed and fixed himself a martini. He couldn’t but help think about Jenny and her fiancĂ©, her soul mate, the love of her life, Andy. He was working at one of the offices at WTC. He went to his office for his morning shift on September 11th. Jenny and Andy were scheduled to be married on the 12th of September. It was a complete disaster and Jenny’s life had gone down a roller coaster.Jenny was sleeping like a baby. She had forgotten all about the white envelope.

The alarm was ringing for a really long time and had already gone off. Pete woke up screaming.“Oh! My god! I am terribly late”, throwing the usual morning tantrum.“Man! Just shut up and start. Don’t spoil my sweet sleep”, Allan pleaded in a commanding tone.Peter Willard was a fashion designer. He was a simple working hard kinda guy. He just got out of a relationship owing to his fear of commitment. He was not seeing anyone now. Well you could simply say that he was available. He had just moved into New York, and the whole experience was enthralling. It was as if he was starting a whole new life. He had almost everything and he just wanted to change his old car. Pete enjoyed being in Manhattan. He was always fascinated by the sheer thought of working in this tall city. He enjoyed the walks in Central Park, the busy bee life in the city. The cell phone hunks, the beautiful skyscrapers, the crowded subways, he always wanted to be here and live the life of a New Yorker. It was just amazing. He was, infact, now living in his dream. Very few in a million get to realize their dreams and here he was famous and quite rich, living his dream.Pete started his car and left for his show. Pete was enjoying every moment in New York. Though the trade was affected due to the mishaps, he was doing pretty well.He was tall, dark and handsome. His models used to comment that he should give a shot at modeling. He was graduated from The University of California, Santa Barbara. His grad school had helped him a lot and he had come up with the idea of opening his shop at New York, his dream city.

forever in my thoughts
This poem features in my third novel, the one am currently working on...
For different reasons, we might have parted ways
But my love, I still miss those good old days.
I might not have been
That close friend you always wanted me to be.
Yet there is still one thing that you must believe,
You are that someone special for me as long as I live.

Hand in hand, we walked beside each other,
Promising to be, forever, together.
But I guess down the road somewhere,
I lost hold of you and now I am no where.

I know I never bothered to bid goodbye
Never ever put a call through to say a “Hi”
Never wished you on your birthday.
Though I had a lot to say.
Turned my face when somewhere I met you,
Though I always wished you were near me when things were blue.
Never ever mailed or wrote
Though I had a lot to quote.
I know to you, these little things mean a lot
Now my only hope is that you forget-me-not.
I so badly wanted to stay in touch.
Yet I don’t know why I just couldn’t do too much.

My love, please forgive me
For all the pain that I might have given
I just wish you knew
Though words I have are few
I just cannot make it anymore without you.

So please take my hand again
Share with me all the happiness and pain.
But remember never ever to let go
Even if I tell you so!!
I am sorry my loveI really am
So let’s bury the bitterness of the past
Just make us “Forever last”
So let’s start a fresh chapter
And be together here after.

The unsaid..Part 1

I had earlier started a blog just for my poems and stories..and then i dropped the idea. So I decided i shall post my stories on this blog and its easier maintaining just one blog.

This happens to be the gist of my first try at writing a novel. I had penned it down about 4 years back i guess. Its well close to my heart and its always special. V if you are reading this...sorry i never got off my couch to really get my words published! I know even the last time I spoke to you you were getting all riled up abut this. Eventually I will get there, thanks for being patient. This surely is a start I guess...
Badri since we chatted last time I thought I would post my stories...and I am getting back to writing stories again. Thanks! (also thanks for the storytellers hut link...)

The UNSAID

It was a cold, freezing night. Three more days to Christmas. Jennifer was walking back to her apartment. It was almost eleven. The skyscrapers of New York were glittering with Christmas lights. Still the agony of losing the twins was looming large in the hearts of everyone in the city. It will not be the same Christmas without the twins; lights were lit up at Ground Zero. The snow-covered city, the beauty of the sky lit concrete jungle, the jingle bells and Santa Claus, his reindeers, the stockings, the gifts and meeting loved ones, it was still Christmas and the magic was still there. The mistletoes, the wreaths on doors, the cakes it was yet another Christmas without the usual lull.

Jennifer was a sitcom writer, for a hit NBC comedy series. Her show was doing very well, infact it would be an understatement. She was a what do you call that “ a big hit”, and she had already pocketed two Emmies. She was the happening writer. She now had three shows on air. “The New York Times” featured her in the front pages and she was a celebrity overnight. She was pepped to be the next cover of “TIME”. It was all happening to her.
She was a debutante and she was drenched amidst the appreciations and accolades. She had done a course on journalism at Stony Brook .She had what it takes to be at the top and still brush the thought aside thinking that you still have a long way to go. Jennifer was tall, slim and she wore her Calvin Klein’s and Gucci’s. She sometimes even chipped in ideas to her dresses. She had the perfect figure and her blue eyes were very soft and appealing. She dressed in pastel shades and peach was her favorite color. She was fair in complexion.
Her sitcom writing just happened. She was doing theater and writing for performers at clubs and well one day her lucky stars hit the right spot and she was suddenly on top of the world. She had great communication skills and she could take on anyone for a debate and she was one smart kid. She had that hunger to go on. But everything was lost now. She did not want to live anymore; she had lost the meaning and the reason to live. She was not happy though for all the success she had gained and the laurels she had earned.
To put it short, personally she was unhappy. Her life had taken a roller coaster ride through the past three months and she was completely lost. She was more like a zombie. The events of September 11 had something to do with it. She was upset. All the glitter and glamour no more mattered to her. She had no one to share it with. It was nothing to her now. She just wanted to get away somewhere. She had stopped writing and the producers were worried as the show was losing its rating as the re-runs continued.

“Why is she so late?” Joe started again. He was highly impatient. He sounded very tense.
“Cathy is never late. She’s always on time. I dunno what‘s taking her so long!” he went on.
“Stop it Joe. I can’t take anymore of your nonsense. She’ll come when she comes. So you just shut up and sit down or just get the hell outta here”, and so the episode ended.
“Catch the next episode to know the reason behind Cathy’s disappearance”, the voice over was getting the attention of all the viewers.
“What crap! Switch off the television. I wanna get some sleep man. I’ve gotta show tomorrow”, Pete yelled out to his roomie Allen.
Jenny, everyone called her so, reached her apartment. She checked her mailbox and was surprised to find a white envelope without any sender’s address.

Yes I would still know

Read this part 1:
part 2:

With all the woe,
As the journey unfolds,
Where to go, yes I would know
It is not easy for me
To just let go

When I am in dire straits
I have learnt to stay calm
To gather my bearings
And bravely tame the raging storm

Life has taught me that
Victory does not pursue tears
I have learnt to stand up
And face my worst fears

When things go wrong
I don’t cower in shame
I have learnt to fight,
To get back in the game

On the crossroads of life
When I find myself alone
In me, I have learnt to believe
And undauntedly explore the unknown

I have learnt it the hard way
That it is not easy to let go
As the journey unfolds
Where to head, yes, I would know!
